Pros:
  • No water/contaminants
Cons:
  • Must be very careful when unwrapping
These black plates arrived on time and tightly wrapped. Oftentimes, I find a lot of water in the plates I purchase. However, these were dry and no contaminants. Once unwrapped, they are easy to work with. The black plates seem to grow mycelium faster than other mediums.

These are the first plates I’ve ever used. Went MSS to agar saw growth quickly. Only one out of 4 got contam working in a SAB, it was probably my fault! Very happy though!

I've been pouring my our dishes for a while after having mixed results with pre-pours from various places but after having multiple excellent experiences with Midwest I decided to try out these carbon black agar pertris. Im glad that I did because I have found that they are perfect for transfers and easily identifying promising genetics in isolation research. They arrived well packed and ready to use. None of my work with them has resulted in contamination so far so that's also a good sign of quality!

Pretty much the only thing that I will say, and this applies to ALL agar dishes, keep them upside down in the cellophane packing, in the fridge if you won't use them right away. This minimizes condensation and will have them keep longer! Great product and will buy again!
