I have been shopping around and was about to buy this exact unit from a different vendor for $899 and saw this here! $200 savings!! Now I can buy groceries this week! Haha

This filter works great ! Keeps air moving and filtered well in my space. Agar work is a breeze with this unit paired with the stainless raised work space! Absolutely, would recommend!!!

 

I received this by Fedex and it was packaged very well! Its about 35 pounds and actually fairly easy to move around. I was amazed by how completely plug-and-play it is—no assembly required, just set it on your worktable and plug it in, and you're ready for sterile work straight away. Its only got like 14-inch footprint so fits on any standard lab or kitchen surface without crowding your workspace, yet still delivers clean, laminar airflow ideal for agar work, grain-to-grain transfers, syringes, and other routine mycology tasks.



That said, you could still consider a horizontal laminar flow hood if you frequently work very close to the edges—such designs typically maintain better airflow coverage across the lower work surface, giving you more room to maneuver around the edges without disrupting the clean airflow. But for the price, ease of use, and excellent performance of the Bonsai FFU, it’s a compelling and practical choice for anyone needing reliable sterile conditions without the complexity or cost of more elaborate setups.

This is one of the highest quality FFUs out there for the price. It came in perfect condition and arrived at my doorstep sooner than expected. I would just add a 16 x 16" home filter from the hardware store to the fan on the back with simple painters tape on the four corners to make the good expensive filter last even longer. The magnetic prefilter is cool, but not as effective as a home filter would be. I love standing up while working and having my hands free. Feels awesome not to have my hands in a box. So far zero contamination on any of my petri dishes made in front of this flow hood. Wow! So worth the money.

Just got my new FFU today and it was packaged perfect- I already poured some agar and did some grain transfers! The frame and 3 speed settings are really nice features. Now just need to save up for the 2'x4' sometime soon!
