Two Myco Labs sterilized 5-grain spawn bags with filter patches and injection ports

Myco Labs Sterilized 5-Grain Spawn Bags (2-Pack)

    Price: $24.99

Each bag in this 2-pack holds about 2 quarts (2.25–2.5 lb) of rye berries, red and white milo, and red and white millet, hydrated and pressure-sterilized in our lab and sealed in a filter-patch bag with a self-healing injection port. Inject your liquid culture or spores, let it colonize, and you have a bag of spawn ready to break into bulk substrate.

    Why a five-grain mix

    Big and small kernels

Rye gives the bag body, while the smaller milo and millet fill the gaps between, so you get more points of mycelium when you break it into substrate.

    Loose, not gummy

We soak, simmer and surface-dry the grain before bagging, so it doesn't set into wet clumps and breaks apart easily once it's colonized.

    Mineral-fortified

Hydrated with RO and mineral water plus gypsum, Calcium+ and DAP for a steady pH and extra nutrition.

    Inoculating your bags

    1Clean the port

Wipe the self-healing injection port with alcohol and use a sterile needle and syringe.

    2Inject

Use 5cc of spore solution or 7–10cc of liquid culture per bag.

    3Incubate

Keep the bags at 72–76°F, out of direct light, and leave them alone until growth is obvious.

    4Break and finish

At roughly 25–30% colonization, massage the grain to spread the mycelium, then let the bag go fully white.

Then spawn to bulk: Break the colonized bag apart and mix it into pasteurized bulk substrate at about 1 part grain to 3 parts substrate.

Prefer a single grain? Our sterilized rye grain spawn bags inoculate the same way, with larger, uniform kernels.

Before you inoculatePick a liquid culture syringe, work in a still-air box or in front of a laminar flow hood, and have your CVG bulk substrate ready for spawning.

    Common questions

What grains are in the 5-grain blend?

Rye berries, white milo, red milo, white millet and red millet. Mixing small and large kernels gives you more inoculation points when you spawn to bulk.

How much liquid culture or spore solution do I use?

Inject 5cc of spore solution or 7–10cc of liquid culture into each bag through the self-healing port. Wipe the port with alcohol and use a sterile needle first.

When should I break and shake the bag?

Around 25–30% colonization. Gently massage the grain to spread the mycelium, then let the bag finish colonizing.

How much substrate does one bag cover?

About 7.5 lb of bulk substrate, enough for a Medium 44Q monotub. Use both bags for a Large 66Q with up to 10 lb of substrate.

How long do unopened bags keep?

They're made fresh, so use them within 90 days for the best results. Refrigerated, they keep up to 120 days.

Should I choose 5-grain or rye?

Both are sterilized in our lab and inoculated the same way. The 5-grain mix spreads more evenly through bulk thanks to its mixed kernel sizes; rye is the classic single-grain option with larger, uniform kernels.

Storage: Every bag is made fresh. Inoculate within 90 days for best results, or refrigerate unopened bags to keep them up to 120 days.
