One stir bar for every liquid culture jar.
Five PTFE-coated magnetic stir bars, each 30 x 7 mm, with a raised center pivot ring. The ring lets the bar spin on a small contact point instead of dragging its whole length across the bottom of your jar. Put one in each liquid culture jar before you sterilize it, then spin the culture on a stir plate or with an external magnet. The PTFE coating is non-stick, non-reactive and rated from -196°C to 250°C, comfortably above pressure cooker temperatures.
Five bars means every LC jar gets its own, sterilized right in the jar with the broth.
Only the raised ring touches the glass, so the bar turns on its center with less friction.
Riding on the ring keeps the bar centered over the magnet, so it holds speed and is less likely to spin out.
Rated from -196°C to 250°C, so pressure cooking at 121°C is no problem.
Will not react with nutrient broth, and resists corrosion and wear.
Drop a stir bar into each jar before adding the broth.
Pressure sterilize the jar with bar and broth inside, then let it cool completely.
Add spores or culture with sterile technique, then spin on a stir plate or with an external magnet.
When the jar is used up, wash the bar and keep it for the next batch.
Tip: the pivot ring helps the bar run smoothly on bottoms that are not perfectly flat, like most mason jars. If it still spins out, turn the speed down and bring it back up slowly.
Pairs well withOur magnetic stir plate and the liquid culture kits they were made for.
Yes. The PTFE coating is rated to 250 degrees C, well above the 121 degrees C of a pressure cooker, so put the bar in before you sterilize.
The raised ring around the middle is the only part that touches the jar, so the bar spins on its center with less drag and stays centered over the magnet.
Yes. The pivot ring helps on the slightly uneven bottoms of most mason jars. Start slow and raise the speed gradually.
Yes. Wash them after each batch and sterilize them in the next jar.
These things are great! Works like they should!
Effective and less likely to go off balance compared to some brands.
Great for the cost. Not very loud and holds a good strong magnetic spin without disruption.
First time using these and they work really well.
These Black Agar Plates are the bomb. I really like how you can see the mycelium colonies much more easily. Unlike other Agar plates I have received these were all in perfect sterile state. They were packaged with lots of protective insulation and they arrived in the proper time frame if not before.
